In California, it’s legal to buy gun parts online and assemble your own gun — no background check required. If you assemble a gun, California law does require you to apply for a serial number to put on the gun. All gun accessories, such as ammunition vary greatly from state to state.
Does Savage Arms have a custom shop?
We offer a service that we refer to as the Special Order Shop. We allow our customers to mix and match different components from different models to “build” their own model.

NOTE: When you become a prohibited person, possession of ammunition and ammunition components is also prohibited and California also bars possession of ammunition feeding devices such as clips, magazines and speed loaders.
