What is a S&W 686 Talo edition?
The Smith & Wesson M686 Plus Distinguished Combat Magnum 5″ Seven Shot Talo Special Edition features an unfluted satin stainless steel cylinder, 5″ full-lug barrel, Forged Hammer and Trigger as well as fancy black and silver laminate hardwood grips that are stippled with an S&W logo and the 357 caliber engraved within.
What is the difference between S&W 686 and 686 plus?
The main difference between the 686 and 686 Plus models is the cylinder capacity, since the 686 Plus is a seven-shot – the cylinder is cut to accept moon clips – and the 686 a more traditional six-shot. Barrel lengths are different too, with a 5″/127 mm barrel for the Plus version and a 4″/102 mm for the other one.

I recently purchased a 686 deluxe Talo 3″ and absolutely love this gun. It is my first revolver ever, and love the Rosewood grips. It shoots like a dream right out of the box and at 3 lbs the recoil on the mag loads is very manageable.

It’s the delux version I like the looks of with the rounded rosemary grips here: Product: Model 686 Deluxe 3in. Barrel Textured Wood Grip I do love the 66-1 and the looks of the newer. Here’s a pix too…not the one with the “357” dark grips – i didn’t like that one eitehr. Too many guns, too little money…
Is the Lew Horton talo model a good gun?
Like most I would also stick to older revolvers but would never pass at a chance to get newer ones after getting all I want of the older models. The TALO models today are like the Lew Horton models of a few years ago. They look good, have some custom features and a slightly better action some rare-er grip woods.
What kind of gun is a talo edition?
The Talo edition is a fine firearm too. There are some Model 65’s on GB. There’s nothing wrong with a Model 19-3 etc. I like my Wiley Clapp GP-100.
