Are Nikko shotguns any good?
The Nikko 5000 series handled well and, in common with so many other Japanese marques of this era, carried a reputation for being well constructed and robust. You are unlikely to have to pay silly money for one and there are certainly some great bargains to be found.

Where did the Nikko Golden Eagle Shotgun come from?
Golden Eagles were made by Nikko Limited in Tochigi Japan and were trade names used by Kodensha Co Ltd also of Tochigi who also produced Winchesters model 101 O/U and single barrel along with model 23 SXS and some other models.
Is the Nikko golden eagle a Winchester 101?
The quality of construction is similar. Fjestad’s “Blue Book of Gun Values” has a particularly informative couple of pages on the history of Nikko and the Kodensha plant, but it is has little on the actual Nikko guns themselves. If you consider your Nikko Golden Eagle to be a Winchester 101 by a different name, you won’t be too far from the truth.

I recently acquired a Nikko O/U from my father. It is a Nikko 5000 – I in 2 3/4 12 gauge with the “Golden Eagle” emblem on the receiver. I know that Nikko has since either gone out of business or has simply dropped from the shotgun/firearm business.
When did the Nikko 20ga shotgun come out?
REALLLLLLY wide rib. Looks like a Winchester 101. Have a friend that has matching serial numbers 12 and 20ga. Nice guns from Japan. I think they came out somewhere around 1967.
